About Manassas Comprehensive Treatment Center in Manassas, VA

Manassas Comprehensive Treatment Center (CTC) provides specialized care for adults age 18 and older who are struggling with opioid use disorder. Located in Manassas, Virginia, our center provides medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to help patients overcome addictions to opioids, including dependencies on fentanyl, heroin, and prescription pain medications. MAT is an evidence-based treatment method that combines the use of FDA-approved medications like methadone with comprehensive counseling to support patients’ long-term recovery.

Opioid addictions can have devastating impacts for individuals and their loved ones. At Manassas CTC, we are committed to helping patients overcome opioid addictions and lead fuller, healthier lives. We are dedicated to understanding each patient’s unique needs so that we can create a personalized treatment plan that takes these into account. Patients’ treatment plans may include medications such as methadone along with individual and group therapy sessions. Our medical and clinical teams collaborate to support our patients at every step on the path to lasting recovery.

Medication-Assisted Treatment for Opioid Addictions

Opioids are a category of drugs that are primarily used for pain relief, but they also stimulate the brain’s reward system. Over time, this can lead to powerful cravings as the brain seeks to replicate opioids’ pleasurable effects. In addition, a person’s body may develop a dependence on the substance, making it difficult for them to stop using it without experiencing withdrawal symptoms, such as a rapid heartbeat, chills, sweating, nausea, and muscle pain.

Medication-assisted treatment is an effective, evidence-based method that has proved to help people overcome opioid addictions. MAT is backed by organizations such as the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), which recognizes its efficacy as a treatment method for opioid use disorder.

Medications offered as part of MAT are prescribed to help alleviate withdrawal symptoms. The medications prescribed can vary based on location but may include methadone, buprenorphine, naltrexone, and Suboxone®. The most widely used medication for treating opioid use disorder is methadone. Methadone interacts with a person’s opioid receptors to help reduce their cravings and withdrawal symptoms. Buprenorphine is a medication that functions similarly to methadone but has a lower risk for dependence. Another medication commonly prescribed in medication-assisted treatment is naltrexone, which works by blocking opioid receptors in the brain and consequently prevents opioids from producing euphoric effects. Suboxone® combines the active ingredients of buprenorphine and naloxone into a single medication.

Studies show that people who receive medication-assisted treatment are more likely to remain in treatment and less likely to suffer a relapse than those who do not. While medications can help alleviate patients’ physical withdrawal symptoms, the therapeutic component of MAT focuses on long-term emotional healing. In individual therapy sessions, licensed counselors assist patients with processing their emotions, recognizing negative patterns of behavior, and developing healthier coping strategies. These therapy sessions can help foster greater self-awareness, allowing people to transform challenges into opportunities for growth. Group therapy sessions give patients the opportunity to connect with peers who are facing similar struggles. This can help provide a strong support system, fostering a sense of community and shared understanding in recovery.

By participating in a MAT program, patients can:

  • Strengthen their personal and professional relationships
  • Establish stability in their daily lives
  • Secure and maintain steady employment
  • Rediscover a sense of purpose
  • Build a foundation for long-term recovery

  • Personalized therapy sessions

Value of Substance Abuse Therapy

Substance abuse therapy plays a vital role in medication-assisted treatment, providing patients with the tools and support they need to achieve lasting recovery. In individual counseling sessions, patients can work closely with licensed therapists to uncover the root causes of opioid addiction, set realistic goals, and develop personalized strategies for long-term success.

Group therapy sessions offer a supportive space where patients can connect with others who are on a similar healing journey. Sharing experiences, challenges, and victories in a community setting can help reduce patients’ feelings of isolation, increase their motivation for change, and enhance their emotional resilience.

By engaging in counseling sessions, patients can not only receive guidance from licensed professionals but also build valuable coping skills for handling their triggers and managing ongoing stress. These sessions can empower patients to navigate their daily lives with greater confidence and a renewed sense of control.
