Breaking the cycle of addiction starts with asking for help.

Hamlet CTC helps patients establish a strong foundation for opioid addiction recovery.

Is Hamlet CTC right for you?

Hamlet Comprehensive Treatment Center (CTC) offers outpatient treatment for adults age 18 and older of all genders who are struggling with opioid use disorder. The center, which is located in Hamlet, NC, provides medication-assisted treatment (MAT).

About Hamlet Comprehensive Treatment Center in Hamlet, NC

Opioid addiction, or opioid use disorder (OUD), is a chronic condition that affects both the mind and body. Substances like heroin and fentanyl compromise the brain’s ability to regulate pain and pleasure naturally. By triggering a surge of dopamine in the brain, these drugs can cause intense cravings and compulsive behavior. Without professional support, it can be incredibly hard to break the cycle of addiction.

At Hamlet Comprehensive Treatment Center (CTC), we recognize that withdrawal symptoms are one of the most significant barriers to recovery. To address the wide-ranging effects of opioid addiction, we provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT). Integrating the use of prescription medications with counseling, MAT makes it possible for individuals to heal on a holistic level.

Located in Hamlet, North Carolina, our center serves adults in the local community and nearby areas. Our goal is to help each individual reclaim their life from an opioid addiction, one step at a time. With our team by their side, patients can rediscover joy, hope, and their sense of purpose.

Medication-Assisted Treatment for Opioid Addiction

MAT is a clinically proven method that combines the use of medications with counseling to treat opioid addiction. FDA-approved medications for OUD include methadone, buprenorphine, and Suboxone®. These medications help ease withdrawal symptoms, reduce cravings, and restore balance to the brain and body. With less physical pain and better mental clarity, patients can actively engage in therapy and start building a strong recovery foundation.

Because it provides both immediate relief and long-term benefits, MAT is a cornerstone of opioid addiction treatment. Methadone, originally created to manage pain, was later used in the 1960s to treat heroin use disorder. This breakthrough paved the way for today’s MAT programs, which offer a broader range of medication options and incorporate talk therapy.

Extensive research has demonstrated MAT’s efficacy, yet stigma associated with addiction and misconceptions about medications like methadone can prevent individuals from seeking help. Expanding access to treatment requires changing societal perceptions and fostering an inclusive, judgment-free environment for individuals.

A reputable methadone clinic can make all the difference in a person’s recovery. In a safe space, surrounded by supportive professionals and peers, patients can find strength, gain encouragement, and cultivate self-confidence. With each step forward, they can remember how far they’ve come, embrace the present, and feel empowered to keep going.

What To Expect at Hamlet CTC

At Hamlet CTC, we meet every person with compassion and respect. When you come to our center, you’ll complete an assessment that helps us create your personalized treatment plan. This plan will include a medication, selected by our qualified medical staff, along with therapy sessions. Before joining our MAT program, you’ll also complete necessary paperwork and lab testing. Our team will keep you informed throughout this process, addressing any questions or concerns you may have. We prioritize transparent communication and want to make sure that you know what to expect.

Once everything is in place, you’ll begin treatment. Your plan will outline your medication regimen and the frequency of your counseling sessions. We will continuously track your progress and make adjustments as necessary. Throughout your journey, our team will be by your side, celebrating your milestones and guiding you toward lasting success.

How Opioid Addiction Develops

Substance use often begins as a way to cope with stress, unhealed emotional wounds, or other forms of discomfort. While opioids can provide relief in the short term, they can cause great harm in the long term. These drugs alter the brain’s reward system (mesolimbic system), making it harder to experience joy or simply feel normal without them.

Additionally, chronic exposure to opioids can dysregulate the nervous system. As a result, the body begins to rely on the presence of opioids to mediate stress. Then, during opioid withdrawal, the sympathetic nervous system (SNS), or “fight or flight” response, becomes overactive, leaving individuals in a state of heightened anxiety.

The interaction between these two systems (mesolimbic and stress response) is the driving force behind opioid use disorder. Stress and reward fuel the cycle, with each stage feeding into the next:

  • Stress/emotional trigger
  • Dopamine/reward seeking
  • Drug use and habit formation
  • Opioid addiction
  • Withdrawal symptoms and cravings for the substance
  • Increased sensitivity to stress
  • Behavior reinforcement

How Counseling Supports Opioid Addiction Recovery

Counseling plays a crucial role in breaking the cycle of addiction. It helps individuals identify the root causes of their pain, reframe negative thought patterns, and adopt healthier habits.

At Hamlet CTC, we offer individual and group therapies to foster connection, shared learning, and personal growth. Individual therapy gives patients a confidential setting to explore their emotions, examine their beliefs, and reflect on how their past experiences have affected them. Group therapy allows patients to communicate with and receive encouragement from peers who understand the ups and downs of recovery.

By engaging in therapy, individuals can rebuild trust in themselves, form relationships with others, and gain practical tools for navigating daily life. This process of self-discovery and healing opens the door to a world of new possibilities and a substance-free future.

Benefits of Medication-Assisted Treatment

MAT offers numerous benefits for individuals and society as a whole. These include:

  • Alleviation of physical symptoms and emotional distress
  • Greater chance of gaining and maintaining employment
  • Increased retention in treatment
  • Lower risk for relapse, overdose, and death
  • Prevention of further health complications
  • Overall improvement in quality of life
  • Safer, more stable communities
  • Less strain on the public healthcare system

Supported by evidence and backed by clinical practice, MAT has proved to be a vital tool in the fight against the opioid epidemic. In a time when medications like methadone weren’t available for OUD, opioid overdose deaths reached unprecedented levels. Individuals experienced insufferable withdrawal symptoms, with no clear solution and little hope for resolution.

With the introduction of MAT, the prognosis for those who are struggling with opioid addictions has improved. Medication-assisted treatment is used to manage withdrawal symptoms, offering patients a safe pathway to recovery.

Today, the opioid crisis is still a major concern, and many individuals do not get the care they need. However, with increased education and awareness, more people can access lifesaving resources like MAT.

The Value of an Outpatient MAT Program

Outpatient programs, like the ones offered at methadone clinics and centers like Hamlet CTC, give individuals the ability to receive treatment while managing their personal responsibilities. For many, full-time care is not a practical option due to the busyness of adult life.

In addition to flexibility, outpatient MAT services are advantageous for the following reasons:

  • Comprehensive medical and therapeutic support
  • Lower cost compared with inpatient and residential programs
  • Recovery-focused community
  • Reduced stigma and feelings of isolation

Staff members at an outpatient center help patients fit treatment into their existing routines. This way, they can attend counseling sessions at times that work best for them and avoid unnecessary stress. Having a sense of independence and staying connected with loved ones can make the recovery process smoother.
